Andi's
Alters
I've portrayed a wide variety of
characters in my theatrical career, and while I have never been one of those actors who "lives"
a part, I have found that some characters have become a part of me.
 |
My passion for Bollywood movies has lead to me dressing "Bollywood" for Halloween several times since there are not a lot of other social opportunities for me to wear my sari. I hope to add more Bollywood to my wardrobe in future, but all those beautiful beaded saris are expensive!

I had been doing impressions of Glinda the Good Witch since I was a kid, so I finally wrote myself an opportunity to play her when I directed Broadway Our Way. Audiences howled with laughter when I entered in full Glinda regalia singing an operatic parody song.

Photographer Mark
Oristano created a photo exhibit at the Trinity River
Arts Center using well-known local performers to recreate famous
actors and scenes from posters, films, and TV. It seemed logical for me to be Lucille Ball, since I'm known for comic skills.

As Queen Evianna of Aquatania
in 20,000 Babes Beneath the Sea,
I was dubbed the queen of campy tragedy and described as "channeling
Carol Burnett". All I can say is it's good to be the queen.

Bettina Barnes in Psycho
Beach Party. Bettina was a B-movie actress, the perfect dim-bulb
bimbo starlet. The animal print pants and shoes somehow found their way into
my closet at home (What a surprise!) |
Doña Carla de Lagrimas in
Tearjerker! I found myself channeling Joan Crawford with a Spanish accent as the embittered
wife of Don Donny and chewed plenty of scenery.

See if you can follow this
character subtext for the play-within-the-play: Andi as English
music hall male impersonator Alice Nutting dressed as Edwin Drood performing
a dramatization of Charles Dickens' Mystery of Edwin Drood in the musical
Drood! Not only did I get to throw an actor's tantrum onstage every
night, I got to return from the dead! What more could an actor ask
for?
|
Many Halloweens ago, fellow
cybergrrrl Cynthia and I dressed as Patsy and Edina. And we were
"Absolutely Fabulous," sweetie-darling! Cynthia
is wearing a dress that she's had since junior high school.
|
At my first Xena Warrior Princess/Hercules
Convention, I actually won the costume contest as Callisto, Xena's arch-enemy.
I met up with Deb, an even more notorious faux heroine,
who habitually dresses as Xena. |
