GSM's production of "Mame" is a definite "don't miss"
By Kim Everett/Staff Writer GARLAND NEWS July 23, 2009
"Mame," the latest production of the Garland Summer Musicals, is one of the most beloved musicals of all time. The story is fun and entertaining, and the acting, singing, choreography, and music are exceptional. The talented cast includes Melissa Tucker as Mame's best friend, Vera Charles, a lovable lush with a deep voice. Her performance in this role is extraordinary. Patty Granville is amazing in the role of Mame. She is a talented actor, singer, and dancer, and that, combined with her stage presence make her perfect for the role of the freethinking main character. Andi Allen, whose comedic talent shines in the role, plays Agnes Gooch, Mame's secretary and Patrick's nanny. She grew up watching and loving physical comedians like Carol Burnett, and she loves musicals, so the part of Agnes Gooch is a great fit for her. Brendan Legas, who plays the young Patrick, is a talented young actor and singer. Aaron White, who is a gifted singer, portrays the grown-up Patrick. Rod Blaydes, with his deep Southern accent, is great in the role of Beauregard. Kris Kriofske is also entertaining as Dwight Babcock, the uptight executor of Patrick's father's will. Rick Starkweather, who has quite a flair for comedy, plays the role of Ito, Mame's butler. The remainder of the cast, too numerous to mention individually, is wonderful as well. The choreography by Carlos Gomez is entertaining, and the music, conducted by Jeff Crouse, is incredible. This production, under the direction of Buff Shurr, is exceptional, and will be enjoyed by all who see it.
